In the life of a writer, sometimes lots of things happen all at once, and sometimes, nothing happens at all. Here is my mini blog: Everything I can write when I have a free minute.
I am currently working on the second book of a trilogy entitled "In the Name of the Sun," a mix of science fiction and "spy thriller." As a voracious reader of both genres, I always wondered how it would be to combine the two. The phrase “James Bond meets Star Wars” comes to mind but that’s overly simplistic. What I came up with was more in the line of Tom Clancy meets Harry Turtledove. Imagine the United States space program in the late 21st century, plodding along but still nowhere near where anyone from the previous century would have believed. Imagine further a fanatical cult of the followers of Ra, the Egyptian sun-god, who believe man in space defies the wishes of Ra and desecrates his space and who attack the space program at every opportunity. To counter this threat, the Special Operations Section of the United States Space Force enlists the aid of Colonel Roman Castello, a sort of 21st century super-cop, to bring down the “sunlovers.” Let the adventures begin! More to come . . .
3 August 2016: I have decided to publish "In the Name of the Sun" myself rather than wait six months for an email that says something like "Not what I'm looking for" or some other boilierplate language. It seems like it's easier to win the lottery than to get a book published. And there are the literary agents who have set themselves as the "keeper of the keys" of the publishing world. I have never seen an industry where the prospective employee (i.e., the agent) interviews the employer (the writer) rather than the other round. Anyway, to blazes with all of them. "In the Name of the Sun" will be available soon. Watch this space!

And MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Feeling lousy today - one of our two cats died last night. No prolonged illness, no evidence of injury, he just keeled over and expired. RIP Whiskas, 2003-2012 - you were a great cat and a great companion. I miss you.
I am now a Smashwords Affiliate which means I can sell other authors' works on this website - see the "Links" page for a couple of suggested titles.
7 March 2013
47 years ago today I joined the Army! (Showing my age - obviously.) Also it's snowing. In New England. BIG surprise :)
4 April 2013 - Another "Hub"article published today, this one on ballistic missile defense. Funny, I consider myself to be primarily a writer of fiction but lately it's been primarily articles!
Early March 2014 - Sometimes I think it's easier to win the lottery than it is to get a book published the "traditional" way.
9 June 2015 - "In the Name of the Sun" is finished and I am shopping to literary agents. Also "DULY CONSTITUTED AUTHORITY" has been selected by Readers Guild to be part of an upcoming anthology of thrillers!
1 May 2016: "DULY CONSTITUTED AUTHORITY" had been selected by Readers Guild to be part of an upcoming anthology of thrillers. Unfortunately the company's fortunes have taken a turn for the worse and the contract has been terminated. It's a real shame as I was excited about having been selected and being a part of the anthology.
Oh well . . .
NOTE: "DULY CONSTITUTED AUTHORITY" had been selected by Readers Guild to be part of an upcoming anthology of thrillers. Unfortunately the company's fortunes have taken a turn for the worse and the contract has been terminated. Therefore "Duly" is now available for purchase at Amazon
My latest novel, "In the Name of the Sun," is now finally finished. I had hoped to get this one published the "traditional" but I have decided to self-publish (see my "miniblog" for more on this). "Sun" is best described as a science fiction thriller.
